I am trying to finish a dissertation on British Romantic-era women writers, specifically, their writings as responses to the contemporary employment crisis and its related class and gender issues.
Meanwhile, I am working as an editor at my university press, organizing CritterFest, the first annual animal education and adoption event for local shelters and rescue groups in my area, and spending too much time reading about and getting enraged about politics.
That’s my sweet coonhound, Quiver, pictured on the header. Look at how her ears flop and curl up at the ends when she walks. I am nuts about her.
Great start to the blog. I’m also a sucker for rescue hounds. My two girls are a catahoula (white merle similar to Quiver) and a Walker (bi-color: white and cream).
Thanks, fellow Greenwaldian! I am glad to see a link to your articles. I’ll be visiting.
Now I am the presumptous one!
Rather than ask for an e-mail address to write about a personal (technical) matter, I’ll just do it here. I’m not certain if you’re able to access my e-mail address that (will not be published), but I’ll play that by ear.
And I assume you can delete comments.
I have a 35mm Kodachrome slide of a person, now deceased, which is slightly marred by– I’m not kidding– the distinct silhouette of a fly on the edge of his nose. There’s also a bright blur in the background that detracts from an otherwise nice portrait.
I’m certain that if this image were digitized, these items could easily be edited out. How does one go about this? I know the “camera shop” at the strip mall offers processing services, but I’m leery of turning over slides to some hapless drone at the counter.
Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated; apart from digitizing my mediocre personal slide collection, I’d like to get a high-quality print of the slide to give as a gift.
Sorry for the “off-topic” intrusion. Thanks.
Little Brother, I sent you an email–just wanted to check that you got it!
PI
Yes, thanks! Sorry I didn’t acknowledge it sooner. I got your message and am pondering over the information.
As on can tell from my long-winded comments, my brain seems to use “writing” as an oddly indirect way to facilitate thinking things through, and also prompt my conscious mind to take obvious and straightforward action.
In particular, after reading your reply I began to idly nose around and discovered that scanners to digitize 35mm slides are popular and affordable. Until my head shook loose, I vaguely imagined that the technology was on a par with, say, a cyclotron. Now I’m leaning toward scanning them myself. If I get images digitized, I can then deal with the Photoshop/editing issue.
– Thanks again. See you on Glenn’s comments threads, happy holidays — Paul (LB)
Far out! Also, I forgot to mention that any full-service print shop in your area should have the equipment needed to digitize your slide. Let me know if you will need some photoshopping! Toodles, PI
Any chance I could entice you to email me? May have a photographic project that is beyond my ken.
It was a Christmas present idea that was supposed to be so simple. Best laid plans and all that.
